We’re always up for a challenge, and for the fourth year in a row we were given the task to create a unique and personalized digital holiday greeting for Landis Communities.  Landis Communities offers support to Lancaster’s older adults and dependent-living community guided by joy, compassion, integrity and stewardship.

We were challenged to do something different and fun that kept with the Christmas spirit. It took a lot of brainstorming, sketching and reworking, but we feel this vintage stop-motion card was the perfect complement to this amazing organization.

After our planning was complete, we hand drew and crafted each piece, including the type. The scene and characters were brought to life with over 700 individual frames stitched together and edited to create the final piece.

The vibrant characters and stylized landscape capture the nostalgia of the season through its vintage aesthetics and warm message.

We were delighted to work with the Landis Communities team again this year on this special project. You can check out the full video and images of our process below!

The Candy Factory’s Coworking spotlights interesting people, small businesses and non-profits. From planning, design and print, The Sweet Core constructed a one-of-a-kind zine to highlight professionals and creatives from all disciplines. Inside, readers will find bright and informative articles back-dropped by interesting photographs and imagery. Coworking‘s simple layout and size makes for the perfect reading companion in a coffee shop, downtown pub or restaurant.

unnamed (3)Prints are limited to 100! Coworking instructs readers to “Read Me, Love Me, Take A Picture With Me, Post Me, Read Me Again and Share Me!” By snapping a quick photograph and sharing using #coworkingzine, you can help share this amazing piece! Additionally, readers can check out a digital version online.

Coworking serves as a wonderful testament to Lancaster’s unique local community and beyond. This is our creative representation of a collaboration and creative and professional development.  The Sweet Core and The Candy Factory are passionate about building relationships, fostering the community and celebrating people doing amazing things! We hope that people will draw creative inspiration from this zine and can’t wait to see where this piece takes us!

Color Inspiration 6 | the sweet core

Color Inspiration 6 focuses on the beauty found in nature. The deep reds work really well with the brighter pinks and greens as can be seen in this image taken in my backyard of a rose blooming. I love these colors, they are bright and joyful and they yell Spring! ~ Anne

About the sweet core Color Inspiration Project
Color plays such an important role when it comes to design. When helping to brand a client we spend a good bit of our discovery process reviewing colors and how they affect us, how we interact with color and how those colors are seen in the environment around us. The color inspiration project is a fun side project for the creative team here at the sweet core. We take images of colors that speak to us, colors that are seen in everyday life and create interesting and usable color palettes from them.  Hope you enjoy and feel free to use any of the color palettes we create. We’d love to see what you come up with.

Color Inspiration 5 | the sweet core

Color Inspiration 5 is brought to you by Katie while on vacation in Florida! Water is the theme here, how many blues and greens are in this image, not to mention the light reflecting off the water. This simple image is full of amazing colors that could be pulled to make fun and inviting color palettes. This palette shown here is calming and we love how the colors interact with each other.

Color Inspiration 4 | the sweet core
As the weather gets nicer we start venturing out to our gardens to find colors that inspired today’s Color Inspiration: the dark and light colors of the earth, the still bare branches on the trees. Slowly the earth is blooming, but there is something calming about these colors of a Fall gone by that will now make way for Spring.  This earthy color palette reminds me of the dirt, the branches yet of renewal as well. See if you can find where the color was pulled from in the picture.  By separating colors and placing them beside each other we tend to notice colors we might not have otherwise. So look closely to see the burnt orange; while it’s not a major part of this image, it is a powerful highlight. ~ Enjoy

It’s amazing the colors found in one image. We pull just several out of millions but just think what colors this image could offer up. We feel this selection offers a nice muted but striking color combo.  A very usable selection for that next Spring project!

Looking for a color palette with a dark base and pops of color? This color combo does the job. With a dark blue (almost black) base the green and yellow pops off the background.

Palette 1 is made up of bright colors that really make a statement. Orange with a sea of blues combined with the silver and dark grays make for a wonderful playful color palette. Perfect for a young company willing to try something different.
